GREEN HRM IN THE CULTURE OF YOUR ORGANIZATION


All the practices involved in Development, Implementation, and ongoing Maintenance of a system that aims at making employees of an organization Green.

It defines as the Human Resource policies, practices and procedures that effects employees of the organization Green and sustainable use of resources for the benefits of the individual, society, Natural environment and organization. 








Green HRM is the emerging topic in current scenario for corporate. An organizations Human Resource can be influential in facilitating a comprehensive approach for creating a culture of sustainability. The strategy involves implementing changes to the different functions of HR like recruitment, induction, training and development, conducting performance appraisal, and also determining employee compensation. Green initiatives within HR form a wider form of corporate social responsibility. Green HR involves two essential elements environment friendly HR practices and preservation of Knowledge capital (MEHTA & MEHTA, 2017).

 

Green HRM Practices Towards Employees









GHRM can also be referred to us using every employee touch point/interface to promote sustainable practices and increase employee awareness and commitments on the issues of sustainability. It involves undertaking environmentally friendly HR initiatives resulting in greater efficiencies, lower costs and better employee engagement and retention which in turn, help organizations to reduce employee carbon footprints by the likes of electronic filing, car-sharing, job-sharing, tele conferencing and virtual interviews, recycling, tele commuting, online training, and energy-efficient office spaces (Atiku, 2020).

The findings of this study have several theoretical implications. First, the study provides support for the view that Green HRM can have a positive impact on employee motivation. This is consistent with the findings of previous research, which has shown that green practices can increase employee job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intentions. Second, the study provides support for the view that employee motivation can have a positive impact on sustainable entrepreneurial behaviors. This is consistent with the findings of previous research, which has shown that motivated employees are more likely to engage in prosocial behaviors, such as environmental protection. Third, the study provides support for the view that Green HRM can have a positive indirect effect on sustainable entrepreneurial behaviors through employee motivation. This is a new finding that has not been explored in previous research. Overall, the findings of this study suggest that Green HRM can be a valuable tool for sustainable businesses. By implementing green HRM practices, sustainable businesses can attract and retain motivated employees and encourage them to engage in sustainable entrepreneurial behaviors. This can help sustainable businesses to be more successful in the long run (Yanamandra, 2023).













Human Resource Management in Sri Lanka: How Green Are They?

An environment awareness campaign that culminated with an island-wide tree planting initiative and a ‘Green Walk’ in Colombo, was successfully carried out by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) with support from Brandix, an inspirational practitioner and advocate of eco-friendly manufacturing (Anon., 2018).


The launch of the "Eco Index" in Brandix, an evaluation tool used to assess the environmental performance of Brandix factories. As steps are implemented throughout group industries to reduce CO2 emissions, energy and water consumption, and solid waste disposal, the index predicts percentage reductions in key environmental indicators for air, water, and earth. By 2020, the group wants to reach 100% elimination of carbon emissions.

 



Sri Lanka’s leading private sector bank, HNB PLC, proudly announced its latest achievements in sustainability, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship and a greener future for Sri Lanka. In a bold move underscoring its dedication to a sustainable future, HNB has earmarked funds from its successful paper recycling program to support a series of ambitious green projects commencing in 2024. The initiatives will enhance energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, and further reduce the carbon footprint. The bank implemented innovative initiatives and forward-thinking strategies to position itself as a critical driver in the nation’s journey towards sustainability. HNB achieved a significant reduction in paper consumption by 60% through its aggressive push towards digitalization and waste minimization efforts. Moreover, the successful paper recycling program mitigated its ecological footprint while supporting future sustainability projects financially (Anon., 2024).










Conclusion

Organizational culture is deeply shaped by Green Human Resource Management (HRM), which seeks to create a sustainable culture through the adoption of ecologically friendly HR practices. These strategies include implementing changes in hiring, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and employee compensation. The Organizational future of within Green HRM appears to be promising for its employees, leaders and consumers as well as for the entire society.
